IEEE NIGERIA SECTIONOVERVIEW The Nigeria Section was reactivated at a meeting held on 29th May 2000 at the Nigeria Society of Engineers Auditorium, Victoria Island, Lagos. This meeting, which was attended by more than sixty (60) members, was convened through concerted efforts of some volunteers including Messrs Eric Femi, Sunday Faturoti, Olumuyiwa Taiwo and Isaac Adekanye. Members that attended the meeting include a Senior Member, Prof. Abdul Yesufu and Engr M. A. Adegbite (FNSE) who was then the Chairman, Electrical Division of Nigeria Society of Engineers and others, cutting across the various grades and from different parts of the country. For a Section with 141 members then (both active and arrears), the attendance was impressive.At the end of the meeting, the following volunteers were given the task of rejuvenating the Section activities in line with IEEE Rules and Bylaws. The volunteers are Engr Isaac Adekanye (Chair), Engr Olumuyiwa Taiwo (Vice Chair), Engr Sunday Faturoti (Secretary), Engr Idris Umar-Lando (Treasurer) and Engr Tunde Salihu (Publicity Secretary/Newsletter Editor). The petition to form a Graduate of the Last Decade Affinity Group was signed for submission to the Piscataway Head Office for approval. The Section has since remained active, with her presence in different meetings within and outside the Region. Nigeria Section has been represented in Region 8 Committee Meetings at Cairo-Egypt (Oct 2000), Seville-Spain (Mar 2001), Edinburgh-UK (Sept 2001), Budapest-Hungary (April 2002) and Washington DC-USA (Oct 2002). The Section was also represented at the Region 8 SBC/GOLD Congress in Cairo-Egypt (May 2002). PRINCIPAL OFFICERS: Engr.
