FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY OWERRI STUDENTS BRANCH

FUTO Student branch is always in the news. With programmes staged from time to time, the SB always gets mentioned in the Region 8 News. Federal University of Technology Owerri is located in Imo State in the South Eastern part of Nigeria. It was established as one with particular focus on development of Science and Technology.

With the able leadership of Mr. Chukwuemeka Obiodu and some other volunteers, the petition for the SB was submitted and formal recognition was granted on 12 January 2001 although the branch has been active before this date.

FUTO SB has Engr. M. Ndinechi as the amiable Counsellor and has 2 Senior Members amongst the lecturers.

IEEE DAY AT THE FUTO SB

With a keynote address by the branch counselor, an address by the branch chair, a presentation by the branch secretary on the IEEE and its membership benefits, paper presentations by two students, articulate advisory remarks from the immediate past chair, and a technically oriented closing address by the head of department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the FUTO SB marked its IEEE day on 13th September 2002.

Remarkably, the presentations were technically fascinating, the past chair’s remarks were nothing short of a grand oratorical piece, while the EEE heads address was a natural drive to encourage professional thinking amongst the inert-disciplinary audience.

As ‘GREAT FUTOITES’, we also strive to build a ‘GREAT’ IEEE SB, and our day was just one of the steps in that direction.
