WOMEN-IN-ENGINEERING WIE is an affinity group for the female engineers and students. Membership is however open to every active IEEE member irrespective of gender. In the Nigeria Section, WIE is being led by a team of dedicated ladies under the leadership of Miss Clementina Vincent-Uvieghara with Miss Nkechi Amadi as the Secretary. This group has been invited to make presentations to secondary schools students by the America Embassy and at the British International School Lagos. They had earlier visited Dowen College Lagos for the same purpose. The WIE Chapter is presently active in IMT Enugu and the University of Port Harcourt. Other student branches are working to have the chapter activated for the benefit of their members.

Clementina Vincent-Uvieghara conducted the “Ice breaking” activity where three winners emerged and were given IEEE WIE souvenirs. The career talk on ‘Engineering as a profession’ was presented by Nkechi Amadi. She highlighted qualities that potential engineers should have and encouraged girls with such qualities to consider pursuing a career in engineering. She explained to the students that engineering was not a discipline for only men and stressed that women do excel in the profession. There was a 'question and answer' session. The students were encouraged to ask questions that puzzled them with respect to females pursuing an engineering career and requirements for studying engineering. This was followed by a 'thank you' speech by Clementina on behalf of IEEE WIE. The Physics teacher also gave a brief speech encouraging the girls to ask the WIE members questions that had been bothering them concerning engineering. He also encouraged IEEE WIE to make the seminar a yearly event and highlight the challenges of the Nigerian Female Engineer as a career woman in a male dominated field in subsequent presentations. Two teachers were present for the presentation; the physics and computer teachers. The school was very receptive. The principal, Mr. Ken Baines exclaimed that he looked forward to IEEE WIE’s next visit. The students enjoyed every part of it.
